Canva launched one of its AI features under the Canva Design Model called Magic Layers. This tool is specifically an AI advancement to help design the image effortlessly and in a better way. But a lot of users are struggling to find this feature. Are you also not able to locate Magic Layers inside Canva? There might be a number of reasons – from regional restrictions to Canva account settings. We will guide you on how to find Magic Layers within the Canva Tool and make it operational if it’s not working.
Canva is among the most-used design tools, with around 220 million users globally. They use this design tool for their personal and professional work. Launched on 11 March 2026, the feature (Magic Layers) is promised to unlock creativity by offering a fully editable static image feature. The feature converts the flat images into an editable layered design, easing your editing.
By using this feature, you can separate the background, isolate subjects, and edit elements that were previously locked into one flat file.
The Magic Layers feature is launched in public beta in specific regions. The United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom are where it’s launched as of now.
Therefore, if you live outside of these regions, you will not see the feature inside your Canva account. But that’s just the regional restriction why it’s not available. However, later in the blog, you will discover more reasons. So, read on.
A few prominent reasons seem to be in your case, where you don’t see the “Magic layers” in your account. These are mentioned here:
Canva’s feature is region-restricted as of now because it’s under the testing phase.
The current supported regions for Magic Layers are (US, UK, CA, AU).
To check your region, go to your Canva profile > select settings > and select language preference. Look at your language and region settings. If you’re in a supported country but using a different regional profile, try switching it and refreshing.
If you use a Canva Team, brand, or enterprise account, you may not find the Magic Layers feature because it’s restricted and controlled by the organizations or admin. That’s where you need to seek permission.
Ask your admin to go to the Team Settings > Permissions tab and turn on “Magic and AI Features.” Once they do that, you should be able to toggle Magic Layers in your own Labs settings.
The current Magic Layers feature focuses on deconstructing the flat pixel data, which is limited to single-page, .PNG and .JPG files. So, that may be one of the reasons you don’t see the feature working for you.
Grab a plain JPG or PNG and then perform the magic layers feature.
It’s a big deal. But the rollout has been slow and uneven, which is why so many people see the announcement and then can’t find the actual tool.
Once the feature is live in your account, here’s how you execute it.
Yes, as of now, the Magic Layers is free on Canva for unsubscribed users. A free accounts have a limited number of credits per month. Canva Pro users get 500+ monthly credits, so if you’re using it a lot, a Pro account will give you more room to work with.
Yes, it works on the Canva mobile app as well. But, you need to enable this feature from the desktop version of Canva by toggling the Labs option on.
To enable Magic Layers, go to Account Settings > Labs (on the left sidebar) and toggle the Magic Layers Beta switch to On. Then, refresh your editor to sync in the feature completely within Canva.
The Labs tab is currently rolling out for users living in United States, UK, Canada, and Australia. If you are outside these regions, the tab may not appear until the global release later in 2026.
The three possible reasons have caused grayed out issue on Magic Layers:
Currently, Canva Magic Layers supports images up to 5000 pixels on the longest edge. If your image exceeds this resolution, you will receive an “Unsupported Dimension” error.
Magic Layers uses the Canva Design Model to “read” text. It works best on standard fonts and clear backgrounds. If your text is highly stylised or overlapping complex textures, the AI may keep it as a “Graphic Layer” rather than converting it into a live, editable text box.
